2 What a wonderful world
Composer(s), autor(es)=   Bob Thiele - George David Weiss - George Douglas    in 1967.
gravada originalmente (ou tb) por  (originally recorded (or also)  by) =

weiss.jpg (10606 bytes)Both Bob Thiele and George David Weiss enjoyed long, distinguished careers as jazz songwriters and producers. During the '60s, Thiele was the lead producer at Impulse Records.    Weiss, primarily a songwriter, is also responsible for the Elvis Presley hit "Can't Help Falling in Love." As for the mysterious George Douglas, sometimes credited as G. Douglas, we were unable to find any biographical details.         According to the Satchography, "What a Wonderful World" was first recorded on August 16, 1967, in New York City.  It was a number one hit in Britain on its release in 1968, but America wouldn't really discover the song until it was featured in the film "Good Morning, Vietnam" some 20 years later !        http://ask.yahoo.com/ask/20030804.html
What do have in common Elvis, Ella Fitzgerald,  Louis Armstrong, Natalie and Nat King Cole, The Stylistics  and Frank Sinatra   ?   George David Weiss as composer.
They have each enjoyed incredible artistic and financial success from their recordings of hit songs written by the award winning SGA (Songwriters Guild of America) President, George David Weiss. Transcending the boundaries (fronteiras) among pop, rock, soul, jazz, country, Broadway and film, the catalogue reads like a "who's who" of classic American popular music.
A imaginary  album entitled "George David Weiss' Greatest Hits" is one you won't find in any record store. But such a release could create a music history all its own, because it would feature such favorite chart-busters as: "Can't Help Falling In Love," "What A Wonderful World," "Let's Put It All Together." "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," etc.
Although Weiss is acknowledged as one of the top songwriters in the music business, his genius embraces all aspects of the show business. He is as at home in Washington discussing copyright law as he is in a TV studio at the piano; as conversant with the intricacies of intellectual property rights as he is with the pure emotional, simplicity of one of his song lyrics.
A songwriter extraordinaire, George David Weiss has been making the music that America sings to since he first exploded on the pop scene.
Respected by his peers,  As a songwriter, he's "bilingual," an invaluable flexibility that allows him to comfortably wear his music business hat on his very creative head. On the legal side, he's famous for passionately pushing the envelope to the max. He is responsible for innovations that have changed the very face of the songwriters' world. As President of the Songwriters Guild of America for the past 15 years, for which he accepts no payment, it was Weiss, for example, who was responsible for: ....continue on   http://www.songwritershalloffame.org/board_member_detail.asp?boardMemberId=30

BobThiele.jpg (8837 bytes)Bob Thiele was a major voice in the music industry for nearly six decades. Something of a child prodigy,  started hosting a jazz radio show when he was only 14.   learned clarinet and led a big band locally in the New York area. From 1939-41, he was editor of Jazz Magazine, and at the age of 17 in 1939, he founded the Signature label.  As the head of the label and its producer, Thiele recorded  various Chicago jazz-style groups . After Signature folded in 1948, Thiele freelanced and then joined Decca in 1952, where he produced sessions for their Coral and Brunswick labels.  Although involved with some jazz, Thiele also worked with Teresa Brewer (his future wife), the McGuire Sisters, Lawrence Welk and several notables whose careers he helped launch: Buddy Holly (whom Thiele largely discovered), Henry Mancini, Steve and Eydie, and Jackie Wilson. He then switched to Dot for a period in 1959.  Thiele headed with Steve Allen the short-lived Hanover-Signature label (which had a big hit with Ray Bryant's "Little Susie"), and he also freelanced for other labels. Probably his proudest accomplishment was teaming up Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington for a classic set on Roulette. From 1961-69, Thiele was the main producer at ABC/Impulse. He gave John Coltrane permission to record as extensively as he wanted, and Thiele also produced more than 100 other albums, including sets by Charles Mingus, Oliver Nelson, Albert Ayler, Archie Shepp, Pharoah Sanders, Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra, Earl Hines, Johnny Hodges, Coleman Hawkins (including a date with Duke Ellington), Quincy Jones, Count Basie, and many others. He started ABC's Bluesway subsidiary, which featured blues in the late 1960s (highlighted by dates from B.B. King, T-Bone Walker, Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson and Big Joe Turner) and produced a variety of pop singers for ABC. After leaving ABC-Impulse, Thiele founded a series of short-term labels, including Flying Dutchman, Blues Time, Dr. Jazz, and finally Red Baron. Thiele wrote a lot of songs for his artists through the years, "What a Wonderful World" being easily his best song. Among    many musicians he produced during his last two decades were such favorites as Gato Barbieri, David Murray, Lonnie Liston Smith, Clark Terry and his wife Teresa Brewer, whom he teamed with Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stephane Grappelli, Earl Hines, Ruby Braff, and even Murray. As enthusiastic in his later years about music as he had been as a teenager, Bob Thiele was active up until his death. His 1995 memoir (memória) What a Wonderful World is colorful, but too brief. Lyricist Peter Udell worked with several composers including Hoagy Carmichael, Gary Geld, Tommy Goodman, and Lee Pockriss, before forming a team with Gary Geld, in the 1950's.  They went on to to produce independent Rhythm and Blues hit songs before turning to the Broadway stage.  Music publishers were losing their clout (influence) at that time,  so Udell and Geld formed an independent record/publishing company called 'Pogo Productions', and signed some rhythm and blues singers,  among which were Jackie Wilson and Brian Hyland.   Then the Beatles came along......(an event that signaled the end of the 'Pop' song era, that had swept the world from the 1900's to the 1960's).     continue on http://nfo.net/cal/tu1.html

This is the first attempt to consolidate all of Sir Elton's hit singles, from three labels, in one collection. It once would've required at least four CDs to own the best stuff here. Many think the legendary performer was at his best in the early to mid-'70s, and the incredible string of singles that ran from 1970's "Your Song" through 1977's "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" remains mighty impressive. But in retrospect, as they're presented here, '80s hits like "I'm Still Standing" and "Sad Songs" add much to an already amazing legacy.       http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006RAKP/002-7256350-8309621?v=glance

Michel Polnareff

MichelPolnareff.jpg (5041 bytes)iMichel Polnareff is one of the French music scene’s more unconventional figures. This talented singer/songwriter, who has spent his entire life swimming against the tide, has experienced a rollercoaster of ups and downs in the course of his long career. He has earnt a famous reputation for his wildly non-conformist lifestyle, but also made a name for himself with his legendary melodies.
Michel Polnareff was born in the Lot et Garonne region on 3 July 1944. His parents had fled to the French countryside during the war but returned to the capital shortly after Michel’s birth. Young Michel grew up in Paris in a very artistic environment. His father, Leib Polnareff, was a musician who worked with some of the top stars on the French music scene (including Edith Piaf and the Compagnons de la chanson) under his stage name Léo Poll. Michel’s Breton mother, Simone Lane, was a former dancer.
Michel was surrounded by music from an early age, his father introducing him to the classical composers while his mother, Simone, would play her collection of Gershwin and Cole Porter songs. Michel soon turned into something of a child prodigy, learning to play the piano at the tender age of 5 and going on to become an extremely talented young musician. Indeed, at 11 and a half years old, he won one of the top awards at the Paris Conservatoire. Young Michel also proved to be an extremely creative composer and one of his greatest passions during his teenage years was to write his own jazz orchestrations for famous classical pieces.......    continue at http://www.atomic.de/French%20artists/polnareff.html

Entry in charts: 03.1987 (Rang 10) " maybe we'll meet again somewhere again... "    very good ballad.......
This album is what 80's music ia all about. Strong vocals, screaching guitars, and synthesizers. This was really the only BIG album Europe had but what a way to go. The Final Countdown is still played at countless sporting events. The ballad Carrie is a classic 80s ballad. Songs also off the album worth mentioning are, Cherokee and Rock the Night. Both strong singles. Sometimes compared to Bon Jovi the only resemblance is the hair. You could go and get Europes greatest hits CD but as far as I am concerned this is it. This CD has been said to saound like everything else produced from the 80's but it's more like everything else was produced to sound like this.
Europe disbanded in 1993.

The Philips producer Pierre Sbarro decided to put Aphrodite's Child to test. He told them he wanted to record with them an adaptation of a popular canon by Pachelbel, (a 17th-century organist and composer). The three accepted the challenge and tackled it forthwith. The result was "Rain and Tears," heard first on radio in 1968, it was climbing the French hit parade within a few days, and the English and American charts within a few weeks. One of them, Vangelis Papathanassiou, was responsible for the arrangement. The words were written by a frenchman, Boris Bergman.

Published by Warner Brothers. (WB.4701HSMX)     After playing that haunting organ (solo) in "House of the Rising Sun," Alan Price went solo and carved himself a niche (in England, at least) as a pop craftsman. For many, his most enduring contribution has been this soundtrack to Lindsay Anderson's allegorical 1973 film about a coffee salesman. Price's characteristic keyboard flourishes are all over tracks like "Pastoral" and "Arrival," while the biting wit of "Poor People" and "Sell Sell" never once overshadows the innate tunefulness of the songs. Even if you've never seen the movie, Price's delightful and memorable score is highly recommended. --Dan Epstein          I still remember snatches at Baptist churches with my parents and now I only remember Alan's lines, thankfully.

O Elvis eu conheci quando estava me mudando para Los Angeles, lembro que ele queria me conhecer e ficou me esperando no escritório do meu empresário. Saber agora que Elvis gravou Feelings foi uma surpresa genial.      O maior problema que o artista enfrenta hoje é poder chegar até o público.
